Monieca is most happy when she has a new canvas in front of her. So, while studies on old masters painting materials and techniques are part of their essential reference literature, I like to suggest in this post some readings on old masters painting styles. I have a book called "How to paint like the Old Masters which lays out in very simple steps some systems of building paintings up in glazes. That means, if you want to replicate the technique of certain old masters, before you even make a stroke of paint on your canvas, you have to know if the materials you are using are similar to the materials they used. I am neither art connoisseur nor critic, but I'd like to share, from an activist perspective, how the incompatible juxtaposition of Old Masters, and the Israeli masters of war can expand our awareness of Gaza's own Guernica and suffering. The technique of painting chiaroscuro, an Italian term which literally means “light-dark”, developed during the 16th century by artists like Caravaggio. This might be partly true, but technology can always be your best friend, allowing you to become like the masters. Yes, Monieca paints with dead people. The old masters did things much the same…the students started out doing three square feet of the Virgin Mary's blue robe, two feet of gown, and the base color of her face and hands…plus ten feet of brown and grey rocks and several yards of blue sky interspersed with several square feet of grey cloud-base-color. Every brush stroke is a I certainly still always look at the old masters as their influence on art today cannot be understated, but it is the artists in the now that really have inspired me to look at art as more than just a hobby.
